Bike ride of hope Class mates raise funds for Haiti

TWO PRIMARY school classmates from Hertfordshire are participating in a sponsored bike ride on February 13 to help raise funds for earthquake stricken Haiti.

Cameron Richards, 10 and Lawrence Marshall, 11, from Bushey, came up with the idea to help the Caribbean island after their school managed to raise £860 on a non-uniform day.

The friends were given the responsibility of counting the money and were amazed at how much the school managed to make.

They then decided to ride around their local park, Moatfield, 25 times to help the people who were effected by the earthquake in Haiti.

Nicky Carr, Cameron’s mother, told The Voice about the moment when her son and his friend first decided to help those in need.

“They saw the devastation on television and plus my family descend from Haiti,” Carr said.

“He [Cameron] was inspired by his Haitian heritage and by how much money the school had raised, so they thought it would be a good idea for them to try and raise money.

“They’re always on their bikes so they put their cycling to good use. “

Carr expressed her joy over their decision to help the needy in Haiti.

“I’m really proud that they’re doing something constructive for charity to help and all the family is really proud of them.

“He’s got family all around the world who’ve donated through that website so it’s really nice for them to see that he’s doing something.

“Everyone’s just really proud of them because it’s not often that young boys have that inspiration to try and do good for other people.”

As of present, they have managed to raise £203.50. All of the proceeds will go to the children’s charity Unicef.
